Greeway ORC

Project Owner: Municipal
Project Value: $13,000,000
Construction Type: Industrial Renovation
Year Completed: 2021
Project Description:
The ORC unit operates on a closed-loop thermodynamic cycle designed for the production of both electric and thermal energy. This system harnesses waste heat from the Greenway wastewater treatment facility located in London, Ontario, to generate power. S.E.M. Construction undertook the renovation of two existing buildings and the construction of a new facility, employing helical pier deep foundation technology to address challenging soil conditions. Additionally, S.E.M. managed the removal of outdated thermal fluid reheaters, a large overhead duct bridge, and process piping, as well as creating new penetrations through the roof and walls to facilitate the installation of the new system. Following the demolition and preparatory work, S.E.M. Construction successfully coordinated the installation of new thermal fluid reheaters, a cooling tower, a heat exchanger, the ORC unit, and all associated equipment necessary for the ORC system.
