S.E.M. Construction completed PHO’s London Headquarters and CL2+ & CL3 research lab with a LEED Gold designation. Project Stakeholder Team consist of Public Health Ontario, Infrastructure Ontario, Colliers Project Leaders, CBRE, Dialog and Merrick. The project consists of a complete renovation including structural modifications of an existing tenant space (approx. 20,000 sf). This unique and complex project requires stringent regulations, innovative construction techniques, and sensitive materials to ensure that the highest level of containment is achieved. Extensive F.A.T. testing is required prior to equipment being delivered to the site. Commissioning, leak testing and quality control are integral components to the successful completion of this project. A comprehensive commissioning plan was implemented at the start of the project with separate bi-weekly meetings as the duration activities span the entire course of the project with activities gearing up in the last 6 months of construction. Installation of several large double stacked AHU’s were installed with careful consideration of the existing structure as the installation sequence included for the composite units to be brought in through wall penetrations with minimal clearance on all sides. This containment lab is designed and built to prevent the exposure of laboratory workers, other persons, and the environment to biological agents in use. It is also designed as a barrier for security that prevents all but those who are fully trained and competent to enter unless fully supervised. This is S.E.M. Construction’s second project to undergo Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) certification of a level 2 and level 3 lab.
